St. Joseph’s Sec. School is run by the sisters of St. Ann. It was started by Bishop Ignatius Gopu in the year 1966; to impart English Education to the floating population of Visakhapatnam.

On 2nd February, 1971, it was handed over to the ‘Sister of St. Ann’. A Shed with 90 students on roll and 3 teachers was its humble beginning. Since then, it flourished under the able guidance of Sisters Dennis, Simon and Regis. Sr. Regis was the first Principal of the school.

Later in the year 1978, the school got its affiliation to the ICSE Board, New Delhi. Since then, the strength of the school increased phenomenally as also the standard of imparting education. Due to the tremendous improvement and growth, the existing building had to be constructed. At present the school strength has risen to over 2500 students with a 75 member teaching staff and around 20 forming the support staff.

‘Education is a Light that burns bright to dispel the darkness in the society and the world – being lit in the temple of Learning – the school, fuelled and kindled by the great Gurus’.

This holy Light is being lit by our dedicated Staff of teachers, holding aloft the principles o the educational apostolate with a spiritual commitment.

This prestigious institution has been imparting value – based education since its inception in 1971 till today, successfully satisfying the social’ needs of this city of Destiny – Visakhapatnam. Commercialization has sadly diminished the virtuous position of Education and has reduced it to a commodity that reduced it to a commodity that could be bought and sold. But even in such unfortunate circumstances our school has not departed from its spiritual commitment and has been successfully overcoming all odds, hurdles and obstacles in order to be true to the need for which it was established. The excellent results churned out by this school bears testimony to the fact that it has stood the test of time and has emerged as the only Standard English Medium School in this part of the city.
